Target rivals Pottery Barn and RH in the bedding category

Updated: Oct 14, 2023

We have tried it all from $500 in RH duvet covers and shams all the way to the $39.99 Amazon influencer specials, and I always go back to Target’s Casaluna and Threshold bedding offerings.

When choosing bedding, always think about durability, material type, and temperature in the space to make the best decisions in choosing sheets, duvet covers, and inserts. Pillows should always be a separate consideration depending on the space you are decorating.

First Impressions

Bedding should always feel luxurious but doesn’t need to break the bank to get the look of silk or linen. Start with a color palette that will compliment the space and ask yourself, do I want solids, stripes or prints and then go from there. Personally, neutral is always the palette I lean towards most but try to incorporate textures in a waffle weave or fringe to provide dimension. For the duvet cover, I turned to Target‘s Threshold Washed Waffle Weave Duvet Cover which ranges from $49-79/each based on size. Then I turned to Casaluna for their Heavyweight Linen Blend Throw Pillow in Natural which retails for $45/each. I personally use old comforters verse down comforters in the duvets for fullness but you can easily find a duvet cover for under $100 on Amazon.

Then I head to Amazon for the famous Mellanni 4 pc Iconic Sheet Set in ivory, that are always less than $40. These are great, don’t pill, and stand up even when washed 100x.

Next find a lightweight throw to fold over the top or lay the footbed. I usually will recommend Home Goods for these, but if they aren’t available in your area, the lifein Fall Throw Blanket is a great option for under $40. I always recommend going with a 60x80 if you want to drape over the end of your bed.

Execution of a well made bed

There is never a morning I don’t make my bed, ever. I want to walk in a room at any time and feel like I just stepped into a hotel.

  1. If you have an exposed box spring, either get 2 sets of sheets and use the fitted sheet to cover the boxspring or get a boxspring cover that’s the same shade of the sheets you chose.

  2. Always wash sheets first, it removes the creases out of the box, addresses any allergen concerns and softens the sheets after the first wash.

  3. Once washed, make the bed and prepare for the final touches.

  4. Insert the comforter or duvet cover and always tie the corners or use a sew kit to connect a couple stitches in each corner to make sure the duvet stays fluffy and the insert stays in place.

  5. Once the duvet is ready to be folded, take a 18-24 inch section and fold back, then fold in half. This creates a more sophisticated look and helps keep pillows in place!

  6. Then add your pillows, largest in the back, then shams, then pillowcases.

  7. Finally add your decorative pillow of choices and voila!

For less than $200 you have created a beautiful and comfortable space to enjoy.
